Why did Morphe close down? ›

The Morphe lawsuit claims that the palettes are not safe to use as intended, because specific color additives are present in the makeup. According to the lawsuit, certain of Morphe's eyeshadow palettes gave users serious eye discomfort, edema, and even infections.

A proposed class-action lawsuit claims Morphe LLC — and related companies Morphe Management Holdings LLC, Forma Brands LLC, and Forma Beauty Brands LLC — used deceptive advertising for products, per ClassAction.org. The case alleges that some of Morphe's products contained dangerous color additives.

Tati Westbrook said in a new video that she believed Jeffree Star is a co-owner of Morphe Cosmetics. A representative for Morphe told Insider that's false. "We can confirm that Jeffree Star retains no ownership of Morphe," a Morphe representative said.

The lawsuit claimed that the application of some Morphe cosmetics to a person's eye area can cause worrying issues like severe eye irritation, skin discoloration or staining, rashes, and allergic reactions, among other “painful, embarrassing” problems.

According to the lawsuit, Morphe LLC and its co-defendants, Morphe Management Holdings LLC, Forma Brands LLC, and Forma Beauty Brands LLC, falsely promoted their makeup products as safe for use around the eyes while also making an effort to conceal the fact that the products include dangerous color additives.

Forma Brands, the parent company of Morphe, filed for bankruptcy in Delaware with plans to be taken over by lenders, including Jefferies Finance and Cerberus Capital Management.
