If you like cute GL romance manga, I just finished re-reading Handsome Girl and Sheltered Girl and it was just as fun as I remembered from reading it the first time.The basic premise of the story starts with two classic comedic misunderstandings: Our main character, Ooguma, has a huge crush on her classmate Kanda.....except she has totally mistaken her for a boy, and attempts to recruit her to (reverse) cross dress for a campus event. Kanda, in a classic bad plot to avoid volunteering, says "I'll do it if you date me" as a joke only to be taken completely seriously. Various hijinks ensue as our dumb-but-in-a-cute-way heroines start dating, overcoming various other ridiculous romcom misunderstandings before eventually recognizing their true feelings (in Kanda's case) and their partner's true gender (in Ooguma's case) and continuing their relationship on a more solid footing.On the scale of "Actual Lesbians/Queer people" to "Gender Doesn't Matter!", it's definitely on the "Gender Doesn't Matter" end of the scale, but since it's a romantic comedy about idiot(s) rather than any kind of serious social commentary it works out fine for me.While there is a some angsting on Kanda's side over what will happen when she clears up the misunderstanding about her gender, for the most part the stakes are low and the plot stays fairly fluffy; and since the entire story is only two volumes long the various misundersta...
